The Independent Silent Film Festival 5.0

The Independent Silent Film Festival- or the “Not-So-Silent Film Festival” has a unique history that stems from the challenges faced during the summer of 2020.

When the pandemic disrupted the performing arts industry, LuneAseas decided to pivot and collaborate long-distance with dancers and performers to create art videos that local and independent musicians could score.

This festival brings together various movement artists, filmmakers, visual artists, and musicians, fostering a dynamic, diverse, and global artistic community.

We feature

Silent Film Jam

Paradise Overtime was created in 2022 by musicians Jared Meyer and Anthony Mihaly, using a blend of synths, drums, electronics...really whatever else feels right, to create a unique modern jazz-rock sound that has no limits to what potential creative, emotional or entropic stone that they decidedly tether to and hurl it star-ward.

The duo has recently released their second EP 'The One For the Frogs' streaming everywhere.

The Arcane Vampire Ball

Excited to create an original blood lust shadow tale to the Arcane Vampire Ball!

We invite all of you creatures of the night to come and experience a dark romantic evening of dancing, decadence, interactive role-playing, and some of the best performance art you will ever see.

Inspired by Vampire Hunter D, Vampire in the Garden, and The Blood of Eden book series, Carpathia 2059 is a world where vampires rule the night, while mankind is suffering severe instability. Vampires live in luxury, but humans live only to survive and fight against them. On April 28th, in Denver, a city where the rocky mountains of Colorado have now become Carpathia, we summon all creatures of the night to a grand masquerade ball in a sanctuary known as The Church Nightclub! One of the most feared havens for the undead.

DRESS CODE: For this theme, elegant, vampiric, monstrous, and post-apocalyptic inspired looks are encouraged! A strict minimum dress code will be enforced. Please refer to the dress code page on our website as well as the Pinterest board below for guidance and inspiration:

Please no: Streetwear, ball caps, t-shirts, hoodies, khakis, blue jeans, etc. We will also NOT permit anyone wearing outfits depicting neo-nazism or fascism.

NOTICE: There will be no costume weapons allowed.

So come on out! Dress in your best, and let’s enjoy the most hauntingly enchanted time of your lives!

Independent Silent Film Festival 4.0

LuneAseas’ returns to the Lyric Cinema August 6th with Grammy Nominated jazz artist Tenia Nelson and award winning films for the 4th annual Silent Film Festival.

Which came first the chicken or the egg or music or the movement? The unspeakable bond between movement and music is a lifelong investigation for LuneAseas work. The Silent Film Festival began in 2020 as a way to keep dancers, filmmakers, and musicians active with cross country collaborations, support as many artists as possible during lockdown, and further investigate the unspoken bond between movement and musical creation.

The silent film festival is back in its 4th year! Bring your favorite lawn chair, dress as a silent film star and join us in the great outdoors.

Spirits and Spirits Festival

Explore the Park after dark and step into the otherworldly realm of Victorian Spiritualism. Enjoy adult libations, delectable provisions and fantastical amusements! This event for guests 21 and older.

Victorian Spiritualism is the 19th century movement that maintained that the spirits of the dead had both the ability and the desire to communicate with the living. After the carnage and trauma of Westward Expansion and the Civil War, Americans sought comfort in the idea of an afterlife that still allowed them to have contact with their loved ones beyond the veil — to make amends, to share secrets and to seek answers to questions left unasked.

New this year, experience Grim Mountain Legends based on true stories of hauntings, murder, and the supernatural from Colorado presented by LuneAseas. Don’t forget to have a look in the Metaphysical Marketplace for unique crystals and curios! This event is for guests 21 and older.

Spirit Pass – $35

LuneAseas is ringing out the summer with the 3rd annual Silent Film Festival.
“Like a music video, but instead of the video being driven by the music, the composition of the music is driven by the movement in the video.”

Which came first the chicken or the egg or music or the movement?

Like in the early days of film no audio or music score came with film in the cinema. It was up to the musician employed by the cinema to create a score based on what they saw and felt from the film. It was also important for the musician to be able to tell a story with a beginning, middle, and end. Many times the employed musician would have to rely on their improvisational skills to build the composition.

Independent Silent Film Festival 3.0 IN-PERSON

Independent Silent Film Festival 3.0 IN-PERSON

The Independent Silent Film Festival 3.0 will feature live music creation while showing classic silent films, live performances, and new collaborations from across the country.

The first hour of films will include classics such as Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid; excerpts from Metropolis, a 1927 German expressionist science-fiction drama; and two Georges Méliès works: The Mermaid and The Haunted House. While they're being projected, Adam Bodine and his trio will accompany the films with music. Throughout the evening dancers will perform, displaying how silent film stars are some of the first contemporary dancers.

Last year audience members said: ”LuneAseas has successfully pulled together a fun creative event that can be enjoyed safely”; ”Sometimes I can’t tell what came first, the music or the movement. These collaborations are truly remarkable”. The silent film festival will host up to 12 films from filmmakers, dance, circus, and theatre troupes from Colorado and across the world. Each short film will be paired with local or independent musicians to create a musical backdrop for each film. The musician's role for the 3-5 min film is to record a musical interpretation of what they see in the film, then the recording will be synced up to the film.

The festival will premier new short films and works from Colorado artists:

In the Wings (Denver) - Front Range Contemporary Ballet Company (Fort Collins) - Dance Express (Fort Collins).

It will also feature a selection of international and national artists:

Stopgap Dance Company (U.K.) - Jeremy Speed Schwartz (New York) - Luca Di Bartolo (Italy) -

Stacy Pascal Gaspard ( Los Angeles) - Shi Wei (China) - Yuuki (Japan) - Pierre GAFFIé (France)

The films will be accompanied by scores from local favorites:

Los Mocochetes - Russick Smith - 12 cents for Marvin bassist Hillary Freeman - Cerise Sprauge

Kira Lynn Sands - Anthony Arras - Jeremy Woodard- national act Lean Year, and more!
